Fundraising Page Tip: Interview with Bryony Cole

Tell us a little bit about who you are.
I currently work at Yammer, supporting some of Australia’s largest enterprises to roll out an enterprise social network inside their companies. I’m also a board member of The Awesome Foundation, a monthly micro-funding project which promotes the interest of awesome in universe. This was actually where I first found out about One Girl and Chantelle Baxter’s crazy idea to get people in school dresses to raise money for education scholarships in Sierrra Leone.

Why did you decide to fundraise for One Girl?
I was lucky enough to have access to an amazing education that has helped open many doors to living an awesome life. For me, school was the opportunity to play, discover, predict, wonder, imagine and dream. I wanted to be able to pass on the opportunity.

What methods did you use to get people to come to your page and donate?
Mostly I used social media. Once I set up my fundraising page, I reached out to friends via Twitter and Facebook and wrote a longer blog post explaining what I was doing.

What has been the most difficult part of fundraising?
The most difficult part was finding a school blazer in under 24 hours. Luckily, my old high school came through.

Any tips you’d like to share with other fundraisers?
I would say, get in touch with your old high school. They were great supporters for me and they have a huge network to amplify your message out to.
