Change for Kids

About

Change for Kids works with elementary schools in some of New York’s most under-resourced neighborhoods. With the help of its generous community, Change for Kids makes sure classrooms are stocked with supplies; packs the school day with music, art, creative writing, and fitness opportunities; brings in mentors to boost students’ self-esteem and build long-term goals, and supports principals and teachers where they need it most.

Challenges / Problem

Change for Kids wanted to use crowdfunding to generate donations ahead of its first-ever Super Chefs fundraiser, where five master chefs created tastings in honor of Change for Kids’ partner schools, to support thousands of under-privileged NYC elementary school students. They needed a site that could be customized to help them establish their branding.

Change For Kids have a strong supporter group, which they knew would be willing to fundraise on their behalf. To successfully use their support base to their full potential, they needed a platform with peer-to-peer capabilities.

How CauseVox Helped

Change for Kids created a CauseVox campaign site ahead of the November 2013 event, which they promoted via social media and through personal and team fundraising.

CFK utilized peer-to-peer fundraising, where staff and dedicated supporters alike created their own personal fundraising pages. Fundraisers were able to set their own campaign goals and share their own stories about their passion for the cause, which gave them a feeling of ownership over the campaign.

The use of CauseVox’ peer-to-peer fundraising capabilities, therefore, expanded the reach of their campaign to the friends and family members of their fundraisers, creating organic exposure and highly contributing to the success of the campaign

They employed two features, in particular, to increase awareness and drive donations. First, donation tiers helped quantify the impact of gifts to this campaign, from the use of a $50 donation to purchase paint supplies for a school mural to sponsoring programs for 60 students for one year at a giving level of $5,000.

They also used the donation tipping feature, which gave donors the option to cover their transaction fees to offset transaction fees and follow through on their organization’s promise to give 100 percent of donations to schools.

Their Results

CFK beat their goal of $150,000, raising $162,721.

Super Chefs has now become an annual benefit, and CFK has employed the CauseVox fundraising tool for nine additional campaigns.
