Fundraising Page Tip: Interview with Rob Bradlee

The New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) is the Olympic development organization for cross-country skiing in New England as well as the umbrella for most organized Nordic skiing events in the region. They launched a fundraising campaign not too long ago.

One of their fundraisers, Rob Bradlee, has raised $3100 by making the campaign personal. Check out Rob’s page and his fundraising tips below.

Tell us a little bit about who you are.
I’m the Chairman of the ski section of the Cambridge Sports Union athletic club, head coach of its Junior program, and a big supporter of NENSA since its inception.

Why did you decide to fundraise for NENSA?
I believe that ski racing is a really positive force for good in society. It provides health and happiness. And it provides a great learning environment for young people as they mature. NENSA is a lean and hard-working organization that keeps ski racing alive and growing in New England.

What methods are you using to get people to come to your page?
People don’t donate to causes, they donate to what they and their friends believe in. I made my appeal very personal. I explained why it is so important to me, and how much I would appreciate the support of my friends.

What has been the most difficult part of fundraising?
I just wish there was more time and opportunity to thank people in person. I send emails thanking everyone, but a handshake and clap on the back is what I wish I could give them.

Any tips you’d like to share with other fundraisers?
I know it’s hard to ask for money. But, I figure that only people who want to donate will do so. And I’m giving them a chance to help and that is satisfying to them. Maybe they are working too hard be able to donate their time, but they know that they have really helped by donating money.
